IN CONVERSATION WITH
INSPIRE LUNCHEON TURNS 30!
Inspire Luncheon has been an annual celebration of those we serve, our champions, our partners, our volunteers and everyone who powers our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. This year, with the public health crisis, we have re-imagined the Luncheon to a virtual gathering to continue the legacy of celebration, of togetherness, and to raise funds that are critical for us to stay resilient and stay strong for survivors.
WHY WE NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER
This pandemic is exacerbating the compounding influences of gender, race, and income inequality. Increased stress, isolation, economic insecurity and job loss, had led to increased incidents of domestic violence and abuse. As of June 30th, we have seen over 300% increase in requests for emergency shelter and/or financial assistance and we expect the need for our services to continue growing as the health and financial crisis persists.
Here at YWCA, our services and programs remain 100% operational. We continue to provide safety net services to the community in a safe and impactful way.
In these times, when there is a disproportionate impact on those most vulnerable, we need you - now, even more than ever, survivors need us to be there for them. Partner with YWCA today to make our community safer, more just, inclusive and the best place to raise the next generation.
EVENT FORMAT
With the public health guidance in place, we have re-designed our Inspire "Luncheon" to a virtual event. The Luncheon is still going to be an inspirational celebration of those we serve and those who champion for us. We aim to raise funds to support the ongoing critical needs of the survivors while working to stop the cycle of violence. All registered guests will receive a link to the live stream of the event a day before with a detailed program. Anyone can register from around the world to be a part of this YWCA movement.

United States National Security Advisor (2013-2017), United States Ambassador to the United Nations (2009-2013)
Ambassador Susan E. Rice served as President Obama’s National Security Advisor and U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2009-2017. She is the author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For.
Rice is currently a Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow at American University’s School of International Service and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She is also a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times and serves on the board of Netflix.
Previously, Rice served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs, and Director for International Organizations and Peacekeeping at the National Security Council under President Clinton from 1993-2001.
Ambassador Rice received her master's degree and Ph.D. in international relations from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and her B.A. with honors in history from Stanford University. A native of Washington, DC, Ambassador Rice is married to Ian Cameron, and they have two children.

We are so excited for this year’s Virtual Inspire Luncheon. While we will miss being together we are committed to the health and safety of our community.
This pandemic is exacerbating the compounding influences of gender, race, and income inequality. Increased stress, isolation, economic insecurity and job loss, have led to increased incidents of domestic violence and abuse. Some notes
- You will receive your personal link to your "table" that you can share and invite guests from around the world - no limit to the number of guests
- If you know the email and names of your guests, you can go ahead and register them - 10 at a time! They will all receive a confirmation email
- Recommend to your guests to register to the Luncheon first and then come back to your table to make their donation - this way there is less lag in the donation showing up on your page

Some useful timeline steps
2 Months Before (Now through September)
- Register as a Table Captain. You will receive your table link that you can use to invite your friends and family to register and to donate. Guests need to donate through your table link.
- Start inviting guests. You can use the "Suggested Invitation Message" above and add your personal touch - remember to insert your own table link.
- All registered guest will receive a link to the live-stream the day before the event (so it is critical that we have the correct email addresses for everyone.)
1 Month Before (All through October)
- Continue inviting guests!
- For guests who cannot attend, ask them to consider donating and send them a link to your table page – every dollar makes a difference!
- Help spread the word and post on social media. Please see “Social Media Messaging” with sample posts.

WHEN IS THE LUNCHEON?
October 29, 2020, 12:00 – 1:30 pm PDT.
WHAT DOES A VIRTUAL EVENT MEAN?
We are committed to the safety and health of our community so this year the Inspire Luncheon will be held virtually (online). Only registered guests will receive a live stream link the day before the event - so it is essential that we receive your most accurate email address. All you will need to do is click the link to watch the broadcast. Your webcam and audio will not be used - so feel free to wear your comfiest outfit and cheer loudly anytime!

HOW DO I REGISTER?
If you were invited by a Table Captain, you should have received their personal table link – please register from that link or mention the Table Captain name in the registration form so we can connect you to their “table.” You can also look up your Table Captain from the “Tables” tab.
HOW MUCH IS THE REGISTRATION FEE?
Registration is free! But our programs and services depend on your generosity. Especially now when survivors need us the most. Please consider donating. Suggested Minimum Donation: $250 per person that you can make while registering or later. Please check “Ways to give” question below for details.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A TABLE CAPTAIN?
Table Captains are ambassadors for YWCA. This year as a virtual Table Captain, your role is to invite guests to the event so they can join the mission of YWCA and be the catalyst of making our communities safer, more just and inclusive. Once you register as a Table Captain, you will receive a personal link to your table that you can share with your network. You are not obligated to host certain number of guests but we request you to invite far and wide from your network so we can involve more people in our mission as well as raise critical funds.
WHAT ARE THE EMPOWER/INSPIRE CIRCLES?
Our Donor Circles are our groups of champions who have a shared passion for our mission. Depending on how the year ahead proceeds, these champions will receive invitations to exclusive convenings, panels, announcements and more ways to engage.
Empower Circle – Making a gift of $1,000 or more makes you a part of the Empower Circle. You receive Amb. Rice’s book and a limited-edition t-shirt.
Inspire Circle – Making a gift of $500 - $999, makes you a part of the Inspire Circle. You receive the limited-edition t-shirt.

YWCA SILICON VALLEY INSPIRE LUNCHEON
In its 30th year, YWCA Silicon Valley’s Inspire Luncheon is an annual YWCA fundraising event attracting over 1,800 attendees, including corporate and community leaders, elected officials and professionals.
Each year, YWCA celebrates and honors an influential keynote speaker who is an advocate and ambassador for change. Past speakers have included Gloria Steinem, Jane Goodall, Helen Hunt, Geena Davis, Sally Ride, Janet Reno, Benazir Bhutto, and Anita Hill.
The goal of the event is to deepen the engagement of YWCA supporters, raise funds for YWCA programs and services, and raise awareness about societal issues at the intersection of race, gender and violence.
